On Friday, the 04.05.2018, the Fifth Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Anti-Corruption Twinning Project, funded by the European Union, was organized in the premises of the Ministry of Justice, with the participation of the Minister, Mrs Etilda Gjonaj, and adviser Mrs Vilma Petro, Project Leaders of the Twinning Project from Austria and Germany, Mag. Helmut Weichhart and Mr. Peter Weis, Resident Twinning Project Advisor, Mr. Detlef Kreutzer, Head of Co-operation in the European Union Delegation, Mr. Mario Mariani, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Anti-Corruption, Mr. Pirro Vengu, and other representatives from the beneficiary institutions such as the Ministry of Justice, the High Inspectorate of Declaration and Audit of Assets and Conflicts of Interest, the Central Election Commission, the Supreme State Audit, and the Commissioner for the Right to Information and Protection of Personal Data . Representatives from the Council of Europe and the OSCE were also present.
The meeting discussed the current situation of the fight against corruption on the eve of the European Council’s decision to open negotiations with the EU, the progress made so far and the future challenges in this area. In particular, the contribution of the Twinning Project was discussed in support of the National Coordinator against Corruption – the Ministry of Justice, especially with regard to the Cross-cutting Strategy against Corruption and the Action Plan 2018 – 2020. At the technical level, the project progress was discussed in an interactive way during this quarter as well as the planning of ongoing activities, for each of the 8 Components.
